Working? Why Not?
The biggest thing that kills people’s internet dream of making money online is that they have been so poisoned by the idea of “I made $xxxx in x hours, and you can too!” that they don’t realize how much effort it takes, especially when getting started.
Another problem with people getting started is that they don’t always know how to spend their time. A lot of people set up a website, maybe check on it once a week, (if at all), and wonder why they aren’t doing well. This is something everyone needs to remember when it comes to internet marketing:
There is ALWAYS something you could be working on.
If I were physically able to work on my few sites 24/7, I could never actaully be “finished”. If you ever don’t know what to do to help you make an impact on the internet, here are some suggestions.
- Write More Content - If your site usually updates once a day, there is no reason that it can’t update twice or more. Or you could write a backlog on content, so that if something comes up, your site won’t suffer.
- Write Better Content - If you have some time, do some research. Find articles/tutorials that aren’t out there that should be. If you already have an idea, put some extra effort into doing research, looking at your format, and find a way to make it better.
- Build Links - There are a ton of ways to do this. Article on Link Building .This can help you build traffic and PR.
- Network - Always get to know as many people in your niche as you possibly can. Converse with your customers, your readers, your mentors, your competitors as much as your can. Check forums and other sites. There is always something you learn, on that note…
- Study - While this isn’t directly related to helping out your sites, you always need to take some time to read books, articles, websites, or whatever to learn more about your niche, marketing, SEO, whatever. I have a lot of good articles & tutorials here, hint, hint.
- Build your Social Media Profile - Social Media Marketing has been all the buzz lately, and for good reason. You can get visibility a lot faster from social marketing than through search engine marketing. Try to get some more friends on Digg or Twitter. This is always good because it’s never specific to one site, and can always pay dividends. You can also do things like posting more on forums, to get your name and your sites out there more.
- Tweak, but If it Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It - Look at your sites and see if there any improvements you can make. Try to ad positions, look for new Widgets or adding/removing functionality from your site. Just remember to not go to crazy, and that the better something is working, the less you should be willing to change it.
